Skidmarks (1981) for bass trombone and pre-recorded sound (BMI) by Dan Senn Program Notes (hear piece played by Simone de Haan) (see photo of premiere performance at the High Court of Australia)
Skidmarks was composed in the Electronic Music Studios of the Canberra School of Music, Australia, in September of 1981 and premiered October 4 by Simone de Haan. The pre-recorded sounds were made using a Fairlight Computer Music Instrument and comprised of Mr. de Haan's extended technique repertoire.
Skidmarks was organized using the earliest version of the Raku Composition Program, a computer composing software program which the composer continued to develop for many years. Dan Senn was Lecturer in Electronic Music at the Canberra School of Music from 1980 to 1984.
Rehearsal Notes
1. This is a difficult piece. For the
best of players it will require several weeks of rehearsal.
2. The graphic notation given below the Time Line (there is no
Time Line for Section Four) is provided for visual assistance
and does not represent all the pre-recorded sounds.
3. In Section Two and Section Three, arrows heads touching the
Time Line should be treated as equal subdivisions (1/2) of the
beat.
4. Accidentals hold for one note only.
5. Metrical accuracy is required only when a note head is directly
connected to the Time Line.
