Street Wise (1982, 86) hear first section for 3 flutes, 3 trombones and pre-recorded sound (BMI) by Dan Senn
Program Notes
The pre-recorded sounds for Street Wise were composed in the Electronic Music Studios of the Canberra School of Music, Australia, using a Fairlight Computer Music Instrument. The same backing sounds are used in a piece with similar instrumentation called Buckteeth (1982) and, again, in a piece for slides by Larry Graham called Bucktooth (1988). This version, Street Wise, was named after Wise Street in Canberra, Australia., where Dan Senn lived.
Street Wise was organized using the earliest version of the Raku Composition Program, a computer composing software program developed by the composer. Dan Senn was Lecturer in Electronic Music at the Canberra School of Music from 1980 to 1984.
Rehearsal Notes
1. This is a difficult piece. For the
best of players it will require several weeks of rehearsal.
2. A click-track version of the pre-recorded sounds is included
on the performance CD, but over-reliance on it in rehearsal may
lead to weaning problems. A stop watch that can be viewed by all
performers may assist in synchronization and timing.
3. Cassette copies of the CD should be made for private rehearsal.
